The Mar/Apr issue of Legion Magazine is set to hit newsstands on March 5th.
The cover feature celebrates the 95th Anniversary of the battle of Vimy Ridge.
The bold typeography makes it clear that what we are selling is, you guessed it, VIMY. The signal is sent that we think this is a pretty bid deal, and you should too, if you care about military history.
Art Director Jason Duprau says, “The Battle of Vimy Ridge is widely considered Canada’s greatest victory of World War One, and remains an icon in Canadian history – an easy choice for the cover. We decided to go with a simple but iconic message: VIMY, with the tagline: Canada’s Impossible Victory, as it emphasizes the importance of this battle and will resonate with Canadians. The image is of a group of Canadians in an enemy machine-gun emplacement on Vimy Ridge. It is a gritty image with great eye contact. We added a colour wash in the background to help the soldiers pop off the page and provide a backdrop to the strong typographic treatment. It is framed with a black border, which adds the drama and richness this subject matter deserves. We also added a bold skybar to highlight other features, and a starburst device to support our on-going coverage of the War of 1812.”
