2016 Trail Special

Posted by Scott On March - 31 - 2016

The 2016 Trail Special (from Canadian Running) hit newsstands on March 21st, 2016.  Last year’s Trail Special was the best-selling issue of the year.  Only the 2010 Trail Special ever sold more copies.  Wholesalers and retailers please be reminded to keep it on shelves…as it is an annual.

The Spring 2016 issue of Prairies North goes on sale this week.  This year’s issue features a shaggy Bison.

The white backdrop gives the cover high-contrast pop.

A similar cover was done back in Winter 2004, which was the best-selling issue that year.

If it works, keep doing it!

Grizzly Haven

Posted by Scott On March - 28 - 2016

The April 2016 issue of Canadian Geographic features a Grizzly bear as the “celebrity.”  Top Predators typically work extremely well for this title.

This image of a bear has great eye contact, a bold type treatment, and a starburst and a + sign to help draw the reader in.

Hail The Walrus

Posted by Scott On March - 10 - 2016

check_mark_125x125The Walrus‘ September 2015 issue had a cover feature on Uber, the “controversial” ride share app that has the taxi industry in Toronto up in arms.

The cover was both timely and brave.

I’m happy to report that they were rewarded for taking the risk with this cover.

Sales were up 14% from the same time slot last year.

Sales were also higher then the 3 subsequent issues as well…

  • 53% higher then the October 2015 issue
  • 20% higher then the November 2015 issue
  • 23% higher then the December 2015 issue

Being Timely and Brave are the hallmarks of great publishers.  Congratulations to the team at The Walrus.

Adele so Vogue

Posted by Scott On March - 1 - 2016

cover_of_the_week-125x125The March 2016 issue of Vogue features the singing sensation Adele on the cover.  Smart of Vogue to use this musical star as their cover girl.  She looks great…and very approachable.

Amazing eyes, lips, and hair.

Look for this cover to sell well.

This issue of Vogue has 405 ad pages, the most ad pages of any of the top Fashion magazines for the important Spring season.
